“As an alum of the doctoral program at City University of Hong Kong, I am honored to share my professional experience with the CityU community.
I am currently an associate professor at the Jesse H. Jones Graduate School of Business, Rice University, USA. I earned my doctoral degree in strategy and innovation management from the Department of Management at CityU in 1998 (Dr. Kwaku Atuahene-Gima was my committee chair) (I had Bachelor and Master degrees from Renmin University). I joined Lingnan University as an assistant professor in 1999 and then I moved to Texas A&M University as an assistant professor in 2001. I joined Rice University in 2005 and made my tenure there in 2008.
My research interests focus on technology entrepreneurship, innovation, and multinational firms’ strategy in emerging markets. Since I completed my doctoral degree, I have published 24 articles in peer-refereed journals with 10 of them appearing in the top-tier journals including Academy of Management Journal, Strategic Management Journal, and Journal of Marketing. The quality of my scholarly work is validated by the awards and recognitions I have received. I was ranked among the top 10 scholars in terms of individual contributions to the empirical literature on China (2000-2005). My work won the Best Paper Award at the American Marketing Association’s Winter Marketing Educators’ Conference in 2001. My academic contribution is also evidenced by my services to the profession. I serve on the editorial review boards of multiple journals including the Academy of Management Journal, Strategic Entrepreneurship Journal, Journal of High Technology Management Research, and Multinational Business Review. I also serve as the Representative-at-large for both the Asia Academy of Management and the International Association of Chinese Management Research.
I believe that my professional achievements have attested to the exceptional quality of the doctoral program at CityU.” (Nov 2013)
